These drugs are designed to suppress appetite and help with weight loss, but some health organisations and fitness professionals are raising important concerns. [2]

GLP-1 medications show impressive short-term results, primarily by reducing appetite, which leads to fewer calories consumed. But studies, including one from The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology [3], suggest that while these drugs can promote fat loss, they might also cause increased muscle loss if used on their own.

Muscle loss isn’t just a by-product, it’s a red flag. 

Muscle mass is essential for maintaining a healthy metabolism, energy levels, and strength. Without it the risk of regaining weight and developing other health issues increases, especially for those not engaging in regular physical activity.

The group in the study who included resistance training in their routine experienced greater metabolic benefits and were less likely to regain weight compared to those relying solely on the medication.
